answering a few questions before beginning reading kate dicamillo's latest work of art.

examine the cover of the book.

5. what do you think is happening on the cover?

edward tulane is the rabbit with the long shadow, approaching the door of his old house. this is his old house. he's returning to a house that has changed slower than he has.

edward realizes he isn't ready. he is plotting his course with each step closer to the door. he is constructing the perfect plausible reply to every question. he is thinking of answers.

he does not pause because he's eager to see his old house again. he's eager to tell abilene everything. he's happy to be given the chance to see his old home. he wonders if he can recognize anything. he wonders what is it he'll take with him when he leaves again.

he wonders if he'll be home for good - and what is it on the outside that he'll be missing.

4. what might miraculous mean?

passing strange. extraordinary. spectacular. fantastic. infinite. impossible. amazing. hopeful. true. heart-wrenching. gut-rendering. original. one-of-a-kind. irreplicable. irreconcilable. irreplaceable.

3. what kind of journey could he be undertaking?

a journey whose outcomes are never at all what he had ever thought them to be. a journey where his musings are only halfway met. a journey where almost all the stories told to him are half-true. a journey that allowed him to gather all the choicest narratives and adventures and heart-lessons that is the envy of those whose imaginations and dreams span infinite but their physical means remain impaired.

2. who is edward tulane?

edward tulane is the rabbit with the long shadow, approaching the door of his old house. this is his old house. he's returning to a house that has changed slower than he has.
